A few families can be traced back to the races origin, but their members are very rare. Alpha Werewolves are the pack leaders of Beta werewolves. Common breeds that gain enough traits in their lives can become a pureblood. But it is very difficult to achieve, proving that purebloods are very powerful in their own right.
